Coastal Sewing Machines was started in 1993 by Peter and Debbie Alvord, who ran the business successfully for 18 years moving between various locations on the Connecticut coast line. Some may remember Coastal Sewing Machines in towns such as Niantic or Westbrook before settling down in our current location of Old Saybrook. Roughly eight years ago the business was moved to this location on N. Main Street across from the Monkey Farm, and has been a great stopping point for sewing and quilting enthusiasts in the area.
More recently in June 2011, it was purchased by Jeff and Liz Erekson, a young couple new to the Connecticut area. The store has been run with the help of Eileen Savage and Karen Pennachinni, both loyal and long time employees of the business. Both women have stayed with the business after the transfer, and continue to provide valuable help and support to the new owners. They bring years of valuable experience in the quilting fabric, sewing machine, and sewing software fields. Their knowledge and experience ensures that all customers receive the best answer, and the most experienced help with any of the needs that come our way.
